This multi-kinase inhibitor is a prescription medication used by veterinarians to treat mast cell tumors in dogs, a common form of cancer. It works by targeting tumor cells directly and disrupting their blood supply, helping to manage the tumor growth.
It is indicated for the treatment of Patnaik grade II or III, recurrent, cutaneous mast cell tumors in dogs, with or without involvement of regional lymph nodes.
The most frequently reported side effects include:
Diarrhea
Loss or decrease in appetite
Lameness
Weight loss
Blood in the stool
If anemia, azotemia, hypoalbuminemia, or hyperphosphatemia occur during treatment, consult your veterinarian immediately. You may need to temporarily stop the medication. Drug interactions should be closely monitored, especially if your pet is on additional medications.
This medication has not been evaluated for safety in dogs younger than 24 months or weighing less than 5 kg. It is advised to wear gloves when handling the medication.
